Ballast Nedam Development opens its head office in the Rotterdam Building

Ballast Nedam Development opens its doors in its own Rotterdam Building, the new headquarters for the area developer. Rotterdam Building is an iconic office building in the center of Rotterdam located next to the De Lijnbaan shopping area, at Aert van Nesstraat 45. Microlab uses the top floors where there is also a members-only sky bar. The intermediate floors are available for rental.

Onno Dwars, CEO Ballast Nedam Development: “Opening our own head office in Rotterdam Building demonstrates our commitment to the investments we make. We have consciously chosen to move into an office that we own and to make it suitable for the future.

We look beyond the technical part of the building, we also ensure that we become part of the local community, a powerful party like Microlab contributes to this. For example, we participate in Rotterdam Art Week, but the ground floor and first floor, where a completely new F&B concept will soon be installed, will also become a living room of Rotterdam Center."

A new step forward in office concepts

Rotterdam Building has space available for medium-sized corporates, scale-ups, start-ups and, co-working and flexible memberships for individual workplaces. This creates a warm open community that together gives substance to this place in the city. Rotterdam Building is an example of a new generation of buildings with social significance for the city and gives a completely new interpretation to office concepts.

An architectural icon is reborn

Rotterdam Building is an office building from 1976 with approximately 22,000 m² LFA and was designed at the time by Kraaijvanger Architects. At full capacity, the building can accommodate around 1,800 people. The agency is also involved in the creation of the reinvented Rotterdam Building. The building has recently undergone a sustainable metamorphosis in which the character of the building has been strengthened, but the facade of the building has also been given a specially developed color in consultation with the architect and the Municipality of Rotterdam.

Renovation of the ground floor and first floor has started

The renovation of the ground floor and first floor has started, where the entrance will be expanded and will receive a beautiful F&B concept and event space, more about which will be announced soon. The communal functions are located on the lower floors to give a positive boost to the liveliness in and around the building. The renovation of this part of the building is expected to be completed during 2023.
